Resignation letter before end of probation period?

I am nearing the end of my 3-month probation period (end of June) for a new job and have decided it is not quite the right fit. I have typed an official letter of announcement of my departure however, as I have never written a resignation letter while still in the probation period, I would appreciate any tips or examples of letters for this type of circumstance, as a guideline and to ensure I am not missing anything important. Also, is it inappropriate to ask the employer if he/she would serve as a reference? Thank you.

  1. Give notice, leave, don't look back.
  2. As long as you thank them for the experience and opportunity you should be fine. Asking them for a reference is not out of the ordinary.
  3. The probation period is for you and the employeer to evaluate the situation. You are perfectly fine submitting a letter of resignation prior to the end of your probationary period. It is absolutely appropriate to ask the employer to serve as a reference!! Very wise to do!! Good luck!!! :)
