resignation and notice letters?

My boyfriend wants to hand in his notice tomorrow and needs to give 4 weeks, however we have a holiday booked and go away on 29th october so he would be unable to work the full 4 weeks, it would be 2 days short. He is entitled to these holidays and they are already agreed. How would he word his resignation letter and when would he be required to work up to? Will it matter that he can't work the full 4 weeks due to going away?

1. Myself I believe that letters are excellent, assuming they are created utilising excellent punctuation and spelling (always use a spill chucker!).
